Warroad ISD 690
We are always working to improve and simplify communication between you and Warroad Schools. Keeping up with your child’s coursework and their teachers directly impacts their well being both in the classroom and at home. School communication plays a big part in all of this, but it’s often not set up to be as simple and easy to access as it could be.
WPS has a new feature called Rooms on our district app. Rooms enables you to have two-way parent-teacher conversations and keep up with classroom announcements.
Our district app currently offers:
Live feed updates
District and school news
Upcoming events
Breakfast and lunch menus
Push notifications for important and urgent announcements
With Rooms, you will have access to even more exciting features like:
Two way messaging with teachers, staff, and coaches
Automatic translation
Classroom announcements, reminders about coursework, and materials
So what does all of this mean for you? This means that you don’t need another app or tool to keep up with your child’s teachers and coursework. You’ll be able to find the vast majority of school and district information in one place: within our Warroad Schools app. If you don’t already have it, the district app is free and you can search for it in the Play Store and App Store!
After you’ve created your login, you can access Rooms through the Warroad Public Schools app. Once you’re there, you will notice Classrooms, Messages, and Announcements at the bottom menu.
We hope this offers you a richer, simpler—and ultimately—easier communication experience. You can read more about Rooms on our district’s FAQ page here (https://www.warroad.k12.mn.us/o/warroad-isd/page/rooms-support).
Best. Team. Ever.

The spring sports season is underway, well sort of! Baseball and softball had to postpone games and move games because of Mother Nature. The softball team will host their home games on the new turf field. There are two fields on the football field. Baseball will be on the road until their field is ready. Golf and track are practicing but they will not be competing for another couple of weeks. The turf field has been a game changer for softball and baseball. The softball team has been using the fields to practice and hosted their first game on April 8th. Yes, April 8th!! It has been a long time in recent memory where the softball team played a home game in the first week or second week of April! The baseball team uses the fields to practice and get some outside time instead of the gym. Some notes on the track: there needs to be one more layer (lift) that will be added this spring. After curing for a month, the rubberized coating with markings will take form along with the track and field events. By the end of this summer, the football complex will be alive with a new track, pole vault, high jump area and long jump pits! With the weather looking favorable in the next week or so, the spring sports season will be buzzing with excitement!
Good luck to all teams and activities and GO Warriors!
Spring has Sprung! Happy April!
🌟 Paraprofessional Appreciation🌟

Keep Kids Active & Learning All Summer Long!
Summer break is a great time for kids to recharge—and it’s also a chance to keep them engaged, moving, and learning in fun, low-pressure ways! Here are a few simple tips:
Try hands-on activities like simple science experiments, journaling, or exploring nature together. Curiosity is a great teacher!
Visit the public library
Encourage at least an hour of movement a day. Bike rides, swimming, nature hikes, or just dancing around the living room all count!
Mix in educational apps, audiobooks, or kid-friendly documentaries alongside their usual screen time.
Start a small garden, a family photo scrapbook, or a weekly themed craft—something fun to build on week after week.
A flexible daily schedule with time for play, rest, and learning helps kids feel balanced and focused.
🎉 A Huge Shoutout to Our Amazing Special Education Team at WPS! 🎉
You made it through another school year—and wow, what a difference you’ve made! From creative problem-solving to endless encouragement, you’ve been champions for your students every single day. You teach, you support, you advocate, you adapt—and you do it all with heart, humor, and serious skill. Whether it's celebrating small wins or navigating big challenges, you’ve shown up with patience, passion, and a whole lot of love. Because of you, students feel safe, supported, and ready to shine. WPS wouldn’t be the same without your magic!
Thank you for being rock stars all year long—we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re lucky to have you!
The Cultural Spring Feast Event and Celebration.
Teachers and Students had the opportunity to learn and engage in Native American Culture. Educational sessions on traditional medicines, the Ojibwe language, traditional artifacts, ceremonial peace pipes, traditional Eagle feathers, the significance and teachings of birch bark plate offering. The students had a variety of dishes to try; prepared by Seven Clans, Bison meatballs, baked Walleye, Maple glazed butternut squash, wild rice soup, fried bread with Wojape and more !
The School Forest snowshoe, campfire and storytelling was a huge success.
The students had a great time, enjoying the beautiful weather. Snowshoeing the trail within the School Forest, led by DNR- Hannah. Enjoyed roasting hotdogs, sipping hot cocoa and making s'mores. All in the great company of Mr. Donald KaKayGeesick's campfire shares.
For some students it was noted this was their first time taking in the experience of enjoying and cooking hotdogs over the fire and snowshoeing. Dry birch bark was picked off trees, to help start our fire, and some students had the opportunity to pick and cut their own sticks safely for roasting.
Students are ready to get out to the School Forest again and are already planning for next year !
Miigwech to Mr. Donald KaKayGeesick, Mrs. M. Marvin, Mrs. K. Andersen, DNR- Hannah, HS students, Cody, Mica & Kaylee and to all students for their smiles, laughs and creating memories.
Just a reminder, road conditions may affect bus times. Please be ready 5 minutes before your scheduled pick-up time. If you have any changes please make sure to let the bus garage know.

Seniors will be returning their chromebooks after graduation rehearsal on Wednesday, May 21st. Students who do not return their device or have their fees paid will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. High School students in grades 6-11 will be returning their chromebooks on Wednesday, May 28th starting at 8:30am in the High School Media Center. If you have an opportunity, please check your child's device and charger, on it there should be a sticker with their name and homeroom. If you notice they have someone else's charger or device, please let us know or have them stop by the media center. We will want to get these issues sorted out prior to the last two days of school otherwise there may be fines for unreturned equipment. The Technology Department thanks you for your help with this!
Also, graduating seniors will have their network/email accounts deactivated around mid-July. If for whatever reason your child needs to retain access for scholarship reasons, please notify the office and we'll make sure that account remains active for a while longer.
As this school year is drawing to a close and the busyness of spring activities is in full swing, always remember that the Student Success Center (SSC) is available to any student after school, Monday through Thursday from 3 - 5 pm to provide academic support. Additionally, students can get assistance in the SSC during the school day during periods 5, 6, and 7 with teacher permission.
With the end of the school year seeming to be just around the corner, Summer School preparations are also underway. Summer School through the SSC is for students in grades 6 - 11, who experienced some academic setbacks in any core subject classes or who need help fixing academic gaps before the start of next school year. Questions about Summer School can be directed to Catherine Steinmetz at cathjerine_steinmetz@warroadschools.org.
