TIME TO SHINE

Warroad Public Schools are in the midst of the statewide assessment season.  Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment results paired with locally collected assessment data provides information which informs instructional planning and curriculum-based decision making conversations occurring in Professional Learning Communities.

Early Learners’ Center

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) April themes are bunnies, flowers/plants, spring, and bugs.  Families with children ages birth through kindergarten entrance are encouraged to participate in ECFE.

Let’s Get Active! Family Engagement opportunities in April included gym, swim, skate and playground sessions..

The April 17, 2026, ELC Carnival was an opportunity for families to enjoy interactive inflatable games, carnival games, cotton candy, cake walk, silent auction, and meal.  Many thanks to community donors and volunteers for supporting the event’s success.  Funds raised will support the ELC Comprehensive Wellness Initiative.

Early Learners and Kindergarten enrollment portals remain open for 2026-2027.

Angle Inlet Elementary

April Showers and Earth Day watercolor and papercraft have been recent art focal points.

Exploratory, informative indoor and outdoor lessons focused on the red fox were presented by Angle Inlet & Warroad Schools’ alumna Katie Carlson.  Angle Inlet youth have the frequent opportunity to observe the red fox in their backyards and during daily commutes.

Warroad Elementary

The Parent Teacher Organization led a spring “No Sales” fundraiser in support of the construction of an inclusive playground structure at Warroad Public Schools.

Students will share more about the Walleye Way if asked about an April 1, 2026, Warrior Way Wednesday virtual meeting.

Warroad Elementary’s Book Blast celebration found each and every student receiving a new book(s) through this schoolwide literacy project!

High School

ACTIVITIES OFFICE

Well Spring has Sprung in Warroad! We will be having baseball and softball games starting the second week of April! Track has had two indoor meets and golf is getting ready for some golf meets! This winter was really good for Warrior Nation! Our boys basketball team hosted the first round of Section 8AA playoffs and finished their season above .500. The girls hockey team cruised through their sections by beating East Grand Forks for the right to go back to the state tourney. The girls would take second in Class A. The highlight was beating Dodge County in overtime in the semifinals to make it back to the championship game. However, the Lady Warriors couldn't overcome an early deficit and would be the runner up in 2026. The boys hockey team decided it was their year to make it to the state tournament and win it all! The boys would punch their ticket to the state tournament by beating Detroit Lakes in the section final. The Warriors would make it to the championship game versus Hibbing which would be the remake of the 1994 championship game. The outcome would be the same as the Warriors would beat Hibbing in overtime to secure their 5th state title!!

On April 1st, we had the Visual Arts Festival. This is where students from all over Northwest Minnesota come and display their art. In the high school gym, we had over 190 pieces of art that were judged! Warroad didn't send any students to the state tourney, but there were some really great works of art! The Speech team is sending some students to the section final in Fosston during the 2nd week of April.

TEAM FRED, our robotics team, competed in the Grand Forks Regional in March. They competed again in April and earned an invite tp Worlds in Houston again! We have over 40 students that participate in Robotics and traditionally are one of the top teams in the state!  Lastly, a little shoutout to Mr. Eastvold and Ms. Fisher as we had our band and choir students compete in a MSHSL contest and received Superior ratings! Not to mention our Pep Band! Not every school can say they have their Pep band play at the girls and boys state hockey tournaments!

As the end of April nears and we will wind down the academic year, our spring schedule will heat up! With that said, we hope our teams get hot for the playoffs!

NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

We Lean and Grow Together

A heartfelt thank you to the teachers for welcoming us into your classrooms. It was such a joy spending time with your students, sharing the Native American story of Turtle Island, and creating a fun craft together.

Our time in the School Forest with the 7th grade students was a wonderful opportunity to combine cultural learning with outdoor science. Students learned how to make the traditional Native American delicacy, bannock on a stick, while also exploring basic survival skills. The experience concluded with a snowshoe hike through the School Forest trails, allowing students to connect with nature while learning about the land around them.

SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The days are growing longer and the first signs of spring are appearing.  During this time there is a new sense of energy and growth throughout our classrooms. Spring is always very busy in the Special Education Department! We are busy with district and individual assessments and taking the opportunity to reflect on the incredible progress our students have made since the start of the year. We are also looking forward to the exciting transitions ahead.

Updates:

Unified Champion School Swim Club took place in March.  Lessons and practices were held every Monday and Wednesday after school. Students learned and practiced water safety and swimming skills. On the last day of Swim Club, there was a swim meet and pizza party!

The All-In Warroad (501C3) organization hosted Yeti Fest on March 14, 2026. This year's event successfully raised $16,337.45. These funds will be used to provide financial support for an All Inclusive Playground, which will be added to the Warroad Public Schools’ existing playground. Yeti Fest had a variety of activities for the whole family. Families enjoyed outdoor physical activities and indoor games and crafts.  Some chose to run a 5K and some chose to plunge into the Warroad River in effort to raise funds for this All-Inclusive Playground!!!

Join the iCan Bike Camp, a five-day program run by the non-profit organization iCan Shine. While the iCan Bike program primarily teaches individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle using adapted equipment, ALL individuals are welcome to register, regardless of whether or not they have a disability! The camp runs from May 31 through June 5, 2026 in Warroad and riders are required to attend one 75-minute session each day. Volunteers are also needed to help support our bikers! Volunteers will need to walk, jog, or run beside the riders.

Volunteers and participants can register at https://icanshine.org/ican-bike-warroad-mn/.

Reminders to families of WPS' Students:

Warroad Public Schools’ Transportation Department offers before and after school busing for students.  If your family chooses to transport students, you are reminded of drop off and pick up lane procedures.  Drop off and pick up points are the Early Learners’ Center entrance and Warroad High School entrance.  The Elementary School Office entrance is not a beginning of school day drop off or end of day pick up point.  Please wait in your vehicles for students to be released by the school at the pick up points.

Parents are important partners in education.  Please contact teachers directly via Schoology, email, or phone to share information and/or request meeting times.

All visitors including student family members must check in at school offices when coming into the building during school hours.  Thank you!

We wrapped up our learning with a fun “Adopt-a-Chick” activity, where students created personalities for their chicks, gave them names, wrote about them, and decorated homes for them on adoption day."
