TIME TO SHINE

December days at Warroad Public Schools are merry and bright!  An Attendance Challenge serves as a reminder of the importance of being in school each day to build skills for learning and life.  Holiday Spirit dress up days paired with seasonal activities add excitement for young and old alike.

EARLY LEARNERS' CENTER

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) December themes are dinosaurs and holiday fun.  Parenting themes include passing on family values and holiday traditions.  The Family Engagement Events are a Holiday Party and ECFE Family Swim Night.  Families with children ages birth through kindergarten entrance are encouraged to participate in ECFE.

The Minnesota Story Collective is a Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) initiative which connects the stories of ECFE families' lived experiences with state leaders in hopes of impacting ECFE services by better understanding community needs, fostering change, and building connections.  Warroad Schools’ ECFE will share an opt-in link with current ECFE families to provide demographic and personal stories with DCYF’s Minnesota Story Collective.

Early Learners’ Center students presented holiday programs for family members.  Fingerplays and songs with actions allowed students to showcase favorite tunes including Silly Santa,

Rock N Roll Snowman, and Feliz Navidad.

ANGLE INLET ELEMENTARY

Angle Inlet Elementary students invite the community to attend the holiday performance of

The Children of Chocolate Street on December 18, 2025.  Folks in attendance are encouraged to view artwork while enjoying a student planned school social.

Cow mascot stuffed animals and a class journal are sent home with students to record experiences to share as they continue to participate in the Adopt a Cow program.

ELEMENTARY

Spreading holiday cheer was the focus of the PBIS Buddy Activity with students decorating LOW Coffee sleeves which will adorn customer cups throughout the month of December.

Music concerts featured students in 2nd and 4th grade this month.  “Traditional Christmas” was presented by Grade 2 and Grade 4 students were showcased in “Christmas at the Movies.”

The Elementary Media Center offers a community service project for students and staff to participate in annually as The Elf’s Shelf brings donations to the Warroad Area Food Shelf.

HIGH SCHOOL

Advisory Live, a Google Meeting for all WHS students and staff, highlighted December activities including Music Mondays, Holiday Trivia, Santa in Your Pocket, door decorating, and Find the Elves Fridays.  Trimester 2 reminders of the daily bell schedule, cell phone/electronics protocols, the December Attendance Challenge, and Warrior Way expectations were also noted..

Nearly 30 students in Grades 6-8 participated in the Creativity Festival held at Bemidji State University on November 26, 2025.

WHS musicians shared their talents with the community throughout December.  Grade 6 choir members performed in the WHS Theater on December 3rd.  The Junior High and Senior High Choirs took the stage at RiverPlace on December 10th and all bands performed in the WHS gymnasium on December 17th.

Course descriptions are being updated and developed by WHS teachers for the 2026-2027 Registration Guide which is scheduled to be shared with families prior to the February 4, 2026, Parent-Teacher Conferences.

This season often brings reflections on gratitude, and our hearts are full when we think of our amazing Special Education teachers and Paraprofessionals. Every day, they bring an unparalleled level of compassion, expertise, and commitment to our students. They are the heart of our department, working tirelessly to:

Tailor instruction: Crafting individualized strategies to meet each student's unique learning style.

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month

We Learn and grow Together 🧡

Thomas X brought the energy and rocked Warroad Public School!

His Indigenous Hip Hop performance featured a hand drum singer and a beautiful Jingle Dress dancer, creating a powerful blend of hip hop music and traditional culture. Through his lyrics, Thomas X shared Ojibwe culture, history, language, and stories for an inspiring and unforgettable experience for all!

The Native American Education Program extends a heartfelt thank you to Oyate Kinipi Archery Program, Riverplace, the Hawk catering services, and all participants who joined us!

We had an incredible opportunity filled with cultural sharing—stories, teachings, treaties, traditions, and an exciting tournament shoot. Each day was highlighted with delicious meals.

We offer a huge thank you to Open Arms Native Missions for their generous donations of all the prize giveaways. Their support allowed every participant to go home with a special item, including bikes, brand-new bows, jewelry, radios, controllers, and more!

Reminders to families of WPS' Students:

Warroad Public Schools’ Transportation Department offers before and after school busing for students.  If your family chooses to transport students, you are reminded of drop off and pick up lane procedures.  Drop off and pick up points are the Early Learners’ Center entrance and Warroad High School entrance.  The Elementary School Office entrance is not a beginning of school day drop off or end of day pick up point.  Please wait in your vehicles for students to be released by the school at the pick up points.

Parents are important partners in education.  Please contact teachers directly via Schoology, email, or phone to share information and/or request meeting times.

All visitors including student family members must check in at school offices when coming into the building during school hours.  Thank you!

Ms. Lovejoy's 1st graders have been learning about many of the inventions and discoveries made by the Indigenous People - including maple syrup. Student Briggs Koftstad's grandma, Jodi Stomberg, visited Ms. Lovejoy's 1st grade class to share about their family tradition of gathering sap and the process of turning it into maple syrup. The lesson was capped off with pancakes and maple syrup, of course! 🌟

Bid kids helping our Kindergarten and PreK kids play Turkey Bingo. 🌟

Christine Prusak led a group of our middle schoolers to the regional Creativity Festival in November - a day of STEAM learning and fun!🌟

Warroad Elementary was recognized as one of the Bright Spots! This means that even as poverty rates rise and reading proficiency rates often fall, our students are outperforming expectations based on the challenges they face. You can find us featured on this virtual map. A special shout-out goes to our K–3 grade teams and sped teachers, whose dedication to early literacy instruction and strong foundational teaching made this recognition possible. 🌟
